The raw material of Acivir Eye Ointment is Acyclovir an antiviral drug belonging to a drug class called purine nucleosides.

Acivir Eye Ointment is used to treat eye infection caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1. The virus usually affects the eye and causes the inflammation of the cornea (keratitis). Symptoms of keratitis include redness of the eye — mainly around the cornea, pain in the eye, sensitivity to a bright light (photophobia), watering of the eye, blurring of vision.

Acyclovir is an antiviral drug that eliminates infections by stopping the growth of herpes viral DNA. Namely, it inhibits viral DNA polymerase, binds to and terminates the growing viral DNA chain, finally, inactivates the viral DNA polymerase.
